Nearer

I write poems
because they nurse me
and because the Lord keeps writing
in my margins.

I write poems
to get to His nearness
and out of my halfness.

Because they lend me His arm
because maybe I am
a fisherman too
wanting to pull people out
of their sea of survival,
of what was unrelenting.
